Where are they now? - KISI
For those who don’t know, what is KISI?
KISI is the digital doorman for everyone. It is a mobile key-sharing platform that allows users access to a property remotely. By integrating your key into your smartphone, you never have to worry about losing your key again or sharing it with others. Our App is perfect for homeowners, landlords, businesses, frequent travelers, and families who may want to manage access to their property directly on their smartphone.
What’s new at KISI?
We recently launched our web-service. KISI is now faster, easier, and more fun than ever before. We have 10 customers now, including a fashion startup, a huge advertising agency, private lofts, an experiential work lounge, and a venture capital office.
What have you learned from being in NYC in the past 6 months?
We’ve learned a lot by being in touch with NYC customers. People use KISI for reasons we would never have imagined: To not have to get up to get the door. To allow employees into the office without keys when they arrive early. To avoid freaking out the dog when the doorbell rings. To get rid of an excel list with numbers for keys. What connects them all is that they use KISI as a new possibility to update their daily routine - which is most exciting for us to see.
How has the KISI team grown since winning the 2012-2013 NYC Next Idea competition?
Our team has grown to over 10 members! It is really exciting to see how everyone evolves skills as we grow: Engineers start doing sales on the side and business people become electrical installers. This is how each of us learns about our own product from different perspectives. And it helps - not only to form a mutual understanding - but also to improve these activities with the help of a fresh view.
What would you recommend to potential applications for this year’s Next Idea competition?
Filling out the executive summary isn’t that difficult, so give it a shot and see what happens. In retrospect, we were glad that we took that step of the application process a little bit seriously.
