We’ve implemented edge caching for credentials to allow Kisi users to access their spaces even faster. Edge caching also helps bridge periods of impaired internet connectivity.
Kisi provides offline mode as a way to unlock doors using cellular data even when Kisi devices are offline. With edge caching, we take another step towards connecting people and spaces, allowing you to use Kisi with both cards and phones during complete internet outages.
Unlock doors even faster, with or without internet connection
This means we’ll be caching your access rights directly on your Kisi Readers. Whenever you unlock a door, Kisi will use these cached access rights before calling the Kisi cloud – and even use these access rights when online to accelerate unlocks. Currently we’re covering internet outages for up to 36 hours, but this will be increased in future updates.
Some of the key features include:
- Fully encrypted and authenticated offline support for both cards and phones, simultaneously assuring the confidentiality and authenticity of access rights.
- High memory and bandwidth efficiency, caching up to 1000 access rights and up to 250 groups in less than a megabyte.
- Near real-time updates of changed credentials by synchronizing with the reader cache within minutes.
- Transparent introduction of caching functionality, without any downtime to your Kisi readers.
The edge cache functionality will be rolled out in the next few weeks to all Kisi readers.
We’d love to know what you think!
Is there anything you would like to see in our offline support that is not yet there? Please share your thoughts with us at feedback@kisi.io so we can make Kisi even better.
